Howick historical village trip

Did you know that back in old days, people washed their clothes only once a month?
This is one of the many things I learned at the Howick historical village on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Year 2 have gone to the trip to the Howick Historical Village to learn about our topic "Old and new technology".

At the village, we had four different activities- Washing, Butter making, Unpacking the trunk, and Old school.

We learned so many what people used to do back in old days.
We were also glad that we are living with electricity and all the modern technology which make our life so much easier and faster!

Please look at our photos taken at the village.

Temple visit

On Tuesday, we went to the Buddhist temple in Botany.
We walked on the courtyard of temple which looked like a maze, some of us made wish at the wishing bell, made lotus flower band, learned 3Gs (Good deeds, good words, and good thoughts) and 4Gs (Give convenience, give confidence, give joy, and give hope to others), looked at the giant bell and the drum, and we also went inside the temple too!

Room 21 really enjoyed our new experience and the temple visit!
Miss Joo took so many photos of us and couldn't put all of them on our blog.
Please check out the link below for the photos!

Road Safety

On Monday, we had special visitors who came to teach us Road Safety.
Constable Merv and Marian brought some photos of crossings for discussion then they took Room 21 outside and we practiced crossing the road safely.
We learned that it is important to stop, look, and listen!

We also learned we need to stop, look, and listen, then cross at the sneaky driveways.

Hope Room 21 remembers this to stay safe on the road!

Anzac day poppies

On Friday, Sunnyhills school had a special assembly for Anzac day to remember the soldiers who have fought and died at the war.

Room 21 made red poppies to wear to remember them as well.
We used red tissue paper and pipe cleaners to make poppies to wear on our uniform.
Some parts were challenging to make but we all tried and succeeded!

Aren't they look beautiful?

Welcome back to Term 2!

Hope you had a wonderful holiday.
As a start of our fun Term 2, Room 21 used Van diagram to research and share what we did in the holidays.
We had fun asking questions and finding out about everyone's holiday.

Keeping rocky shore healthy

One of the learnings we are doing for topic is thinking about how to keep our rocky shore clean and healthy so Room 21 designed posters last week.

We discussed slogans, big and bright pictures which can catch people's eyes easily, and pictures that relate to the slogan we chose.

When we go to rocky shore, we need to remember to leave the creatures in the sea instead of taking them home, pick up the rubbish, and take the rubbish back home if we had picnic.

This week we finished our posters because we had to paint some parts of our posters with water colours.

Well done Blake for listening to Miss Joo how bright colours are important in posters!

Well done Laura for the bright slogans! I could clearly see what your poster is about!

I really like your happy sea creatures in your poster Geena and well done for painting your background carefully!

Welcome back!

Welcome to Room 21!
We had awesome first three days of school in Room 21 with lots of art and ice breaker games.
In Room 21, we made a class treaty to promise to keep these so everyone in Room 21 can be happy and have lots of fun.

Please come in and have a look at our treaty which is now displayed at the back of the room.
Have a relaxing and cool long Waitangi day weekend.
See you back next week!
