Howick historical village trip

Did you know that back in old days, people washed their clothes only once a month?
This is one of the many things I learned at the Howick historical village on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Year 2 have gone to the trip to the Howick Historical Village to learn about our topic "Old and new technology".

At the village, we had four different activities- Washing, Butter making, Unpacking the trunk, and Old school.

We learned so many what people used to do back in old days.
We were also glad that we are living with electricity and all the modern technology which make our life so much easier and faster!

Please look at our photos taken at the village.

One land many cultures

Our topic for this term is called "One land, many cultures" and we are learning about many different cultures such as countries, languages, food, clothes, music, dance, and so on.

Last week, Room 21 talked about what countries we or our families are from and looked at the flags of these countries.
Miss Joo then printed out all the flags of Room 21 and we coloured them in to learn how flags look all different.

We will also be learning icons of different countries in the next few weeks so please bring some photos to share with the class.

Room 21 is very excited to learn different cultures!

Arts week

Week 6 was "Arts week" so Room 21 did a variety of art during this week.

First picture is Samoan pattern art that we did last week with Mrs. Baldwin for Samoan language week. We enjoyed drawing different patterns of Samoa.

Second pictures are Giraffe silhouette art we did for Arts week.
Miss Joo read the picture book called "Giraffes can't dance" and we sketched giraffe pattern then coloured it with oil pastels.
When we finished the pattern background, we cut out giraffe silhouette and glued it in the centre.
It was a hard work colouring the pattern with pastels but we all finished them beautifully!

Next picture is art we call "Crazy hair art" which was a lovely suggestion from Caleb.
Caleb brought the crazy hair art that he did at an afternoon art class and asked Miss Joo if we can do it together as a class, so on Friday, Miss Joo and Caleb showed how to do crazy hair art.
These are our excellent outcome of our crazy hair art. Some of us are still finishing off painting.
Thanks Caleb for suggesting a fantastic art idea!

We all enjoyed creating different kinds of art this week and now our classroom is going to look very colourful with our awesome art so please come in and see them!

Library books

Today Room 21 went to the library to issue new books.
However!
We noticed that many of us couldn't issue a new book today because we forgot to return our old books.

When we came back to the classroom, we discussed that it is important to return books on time.
Please look after our library books and put them in the bookbag as soon as you finish reading them.

Thank you.

Temple visit

On Tuesday, we went to the Buddhist temple in Botany.
We walked on the courtyard of temple which looked like a maze, some of us made wish at the wishing bell, made lotus flower band, learned 3Gs (Good deeds, good words, and good thoughts) and 4Gs (Give convenience, give confidence, give joy, and give hope to others), looked at the giant bell and the drum, and we also went inside the temple too!

Room 21 really enjoyed our new experience and the temple visit!
Miss Joo took so many photos of us and couldn't put all of them on our blog.
Please check out the link below for the photos!

Autumn leaves

Last week our poem of the week was called "Autumn leaves" so Room 21 went outside to collect some colourful and crunchy Autumn leaves.
When we came back to the class, we felt them, looked at them, smelled them, and scrunched them to listen to the sound they make.
Next day, we did buddy writing about Autumn leaves using simile.
Our buddies and I discussed and wrote one simile sentence each for Feel, Look, Sound, and Smell.

It was a new experience for all of us but we had fun.
Now our buddy works are displayed on our wall in Room 21, please come and read our fun simile sentences about Autumn leaves!

Road Safety

On Monday, we had special visitors who came to teach us Road Safety.
Constable Merv and Marian brought some photos of crossings for discussion then they took Room 21 outside and we practiced crossing the road safely.
We learned that it is important to stop, look, and listen!

We also learned we need to stop, look, and listen, then cross at the sneaky driveways.

Hope Room 21 remembers this to stay safe on the road!

Roman's rockpool study

In the holidays Roman visited rockpool, took photos, and made a rockpool study poster.
He also collected some dead crab shells and shared with Room 21.
Thanks Roman for sharing your wonderful study with us!

Anzac day poppies

On Friday, Sunnyhills school had a special assembly for Anzac day to remember the soldiers who have fought and died at the war.

Room 21 made red poppies to wear to remember them as well.
We used red tissue paper and pipe cleaners to make poppies to wear on our uniform.
Some parts were challenging to make but we all tried and succeeded!

Aren't they look beautiful?

Welcome back to Term 2!

Hope you had a wonderful holiday.
As a start of our fun Term 2, Room 21 used Van diagram to research and share what we did in the holidays.
We had fun asking questions and finding out about everyone's holiday.
